Brighton Ski Resort Open with 40”+ base Snow Powder

November 11th, 2008 by Adrienne Aldous

Today is Veterans Day.  Good day to contemplate the price many have paid for our freedom.  Another important notice is that Brighton Ski Resort will open with over 40” base and more coming the entire week.  To kick off this early opening, Brighton is offering day passes for $45.00.  There will be 4 lifts running.  Tear it up.

Brighton Ski Resort Gets 29 Inches of Snow

November 7th, 2008 by Adrienne Aldous

The snow gods forgot it is only early November.

Yep.  We got 29 inches in one day.  Brighton is opening November 12th.  That is the earliest I can ever remember.  Now I need to get the snow tires on the car, wax my skis and pull out my gear.  So much to do.  See you on the slopes.

The First Brighton Utah Snow of 2008-09 Season Arrives

November 5th, 2008 by Adrienne Aldous

It has been snowing all day.  I am sitting by the fire knitting socks watching the snow pile up. I learned how to knit these socks at a class taught at Soul Spun Yarn.  Check out their website www.soulspunyarn.com.  It is so cool.  Knit one, purl one….. I just know the resorts will open soon.

Children of Winter Movie – Warren Miller

October 24th, 2008 by Adrienne Aldous

Last night, the family went to Warren Miller’s annual ski movie, “Children of Winter”.  I can’t believe this “epic” show has been going on for 59 years.  As usual, there were many classic deep powder shots in some pretty gnarly locations in the Wasatch mountain range of

Utah.  It fired up the entire audience (yelling and cheering) to get psyched and prepared for another record snow year.  They reported that Alta Resort measured 700 inches of snowfall the 2007-08 season. WOW!  There was also a tribute to Billy Poole, the 28 yr old veteran skier who died at Alta Ski Resort last year doing what he loved most.  The best news for me last night was that I surprisingly won the raffle during intermission which was a $100 to Ski-n-See.  I never win anything and the kids were so excited about it.  They had it spent by the time we got to the car.

Here is an updated photo of the day lodge at Brighton Ski Resort. Looks like they are on schedule. Good timing. We are supposed to get 8-12 inches of new snow tonight.

Millicent Day Lodge – Brighton Ski Resort

October 6th, 2008 by Adrienne Aldous

This summer I have watched the Milly Day Lodge under construction. Layton Construction has been working hard to get it completed for its November 17th debut for the 2008-09 ski season. Millicent Day Lodge will be 6,400 square feet and will house a ticket office for the west side of Brighton Ski Resort, bathrooms and a restaurant that will seat 140 people inside and 50 people outside. During winter months, it will be a cafeteria, a efficient and convenient style better suited to the needs of skiers on the go. During the summer months, Milly Day Lodge morphs into more of a restaurant-style setting.

The design of Millicent Day Lodge is quite unique. On the western side of the Lodge, garage doors substitute the typical narrow doorways you find at most ski resort eateries and allow for uncongested pedestrian traffic. The garage doors open directly into the face of Brighton’s ski slopes, the Mount Millicent panorama, and the beauty that is the Utah outdoors. During the summer months, the new building will house the Molly Greens Pub. Beer and Brats on the deck sounds like a great year round event to me.

Fall Colors at Brighton

La Vista in the Fall After 1st Snowfall - 2008 - Brighton Utah

Thought I would take another photo of La Vista to show what Mother Nature brought us this weekend – the first signs of Winter! The first photo that we posted on September 25th shows the changing colors of Fall at La Vista without snow. It is interesting to see the snow mingle (maybe compete?) with the Fall leaves. We are expected to have another storm next weekend so am not sure how long the leaves will last.

Mid Mountain Marathon – Deer Valley – Park City – Utah

Mid Mountain Marathon - Deer Valley - Park City - Utah

Sept 6, 2008

What a beautiful day for the Mid Mountain Marathon. Starting out signing 3 waivers to hold harmless Deer Valley Resort, Park City Resort and Canyons Resort I wondered if it was a bad omen. But the stars were lined up correctly and conditions were perfect. Not too hot, not too cold. Problem was, I ate a peach right before the race which wreaked havoc on my stomach the entire time. Fell once, but despite all that I improved my time by 30 minutes and came in under 5 hours…barely (4:56). This is always a great feel good race.

Frisbee Golf Course at Solitude Ski Resort

Frisbee Golf at Solitude Ski Resort

Finally tried out the Frisbee Golf course at Solitude Ski Resort. We celebrated my brother, Jim, and sister, Dorian’s, birthday up there. Julia and Kevin, Jim’s daughter and boyfriend, provided some expertise and finesse to get us through the grueling 2 hours. They wisely brought tunes and a cooler full of beer to parch their thirst during the ordeal. After losing 3 Frisbees, I mean discs, and finding 2 on the course, we hobbled to our cars and bee-lined it to Chez Louisa for a wonderful bar-b-cue out on the deck. What a great family I have.
