Utah’s Wasatch Mountain range in Big Cottonwood canyon provides the backdrop with great views and cool weather. Chef Adam Kreisel Stirs It Up @ Creekside

Friday, February 11th, 2011

Submitted by one of our guests who recently rented the extraordinary Creekside Ski Home

It was our last day at Creekside and we were all exhausted from 5 days of solid skiing when my good friend and chef extraordinaire, Adam Kreisel, offered to make us a tasty and healthy dinner. While we’re not awful cooks ourselves, he fixed us up a positively delicious and most healthy 4 course dinner starting with chips and a hummus that you’d buy in bulk if you could. We then moved onto a delightful pasta salad with Bay scallops and finished off dinner with a mouth watering steak salad. For dessert we had the best bread pudding I’ve tasted and an amazing custard with some reduction sauce that make my mouth water just thinking about it.

Next time we’re back, we’ll plan to employ Adam for more than just the grand finale meal. He’s a pro if there ever was one, not to mention a fantastic ski guide as he has a season pass to the Big Cottonwood slopes.

Thanks again for everything!

2010 Utah Ski Vacation Home Rentals Surging for Mount Majestic

Saturday, November 27th, 2010

Mount Majestic is happy to report that Utah ski vacation home rentals have improved significantly in 2010, specifically in Brighton and Solitude. Compared to 2009, our ski home rentals have increased 30% thus far. In fact, we enjoyed the BEST Thanksgiving Weekend booking rate in our history.

There are three factors that have influenced our growth in ski vacation home rentals this year:

  • Our ski vacation home rental prices have remained unchanged for the past 3 years. And the homes are beautifully appointed and close, if not on, the ski slopes.
  • The “best snow on earth” in Brighton and Solitude, Utah
  • Location, location, location: Brighton and Solitude not only offer the “best snow on earth” but are also ski resort areas that are preferred by families, friends and couples. Skiers don’t have to wait an hour to ski a run and the conditions are as good if not better than those at Alta and Snowbird.

Book your ski vacation home now before we are full. Just a few houses remain for Christmas and New Year’s.

2010 Utah Ski Vacation Home Rentals Surging, in General

The Mountain Travel Research Program (MTRiP) recently issued some welcome and encouraging news for Utah ski and snowboard resorts in Utah: the winter season of 2010 is showing strong signs of growth and improvement.

There are a few factors that are influencing the strong trend upward in bookings and room rates:

  • The Dow Jones Industrial Average has increased 9.6% since May, 2010
  • The Index of Leading Economic Indicators has shown growth in 4 of the last 5 months
  • Travel prices have increased 4.4% since the summer of 2009
  • National occupancy rates are up 8.8%
  • The Consumer Confidence Index (CCI), while showing signs of growth at 3.6% (since the summer of 2009), has fallen a bit behind the growth of the Dow Jones, Leading Economic Indicators and travel prices.

All of this adds up to growth in bookings in the months of October, November (21%) and December (14%) for Utah ski and snowboard resorts.

Ski Magazine awards Brighton Resort as best place to ski for value conscious travelers

Thursday, October 14th, 2010

Utah ski resorts topped the charts of the 2011 SKI magazine reader survey. Along with incredible representation in the overall rankings, Utah resorts dominated the categories Ski Utah considers its greatest strengths – snow, access and value. As Utah is famous for having The Greatest Snow on Earth®, it was no surprise that eight of the top ten listings for “Snow” were Utah resorts (#1 Alta, #2 Snowbird, #3 Powder Mountain, #4 Brighton, #5 Solitude, #7 Deer Valley, #8 Snowbasin). Additionally, seven of the top ten resorts listed in the “Access” category were in Utah (#1 Deer Valley, #2 Park City, #4 Brighton, #5 Solitude, #6 The Canyons, #7 Snowbird, #9 Alta).

“Value,” another vital component of Utah’s wintersports product, had five Utah resorts in the top ten (#1 Powder Mountain, #3 Alta, #4 Brighton, #6 Solitude, #9 Snowbasin).

New this season, SKI magazine added a section of Lifestyle awards where Alta was awarded best “Skier’s Mountain” followed by Snowbird in second place. Snowbird also received the title of best “Weekend Escape” followed by Deer Valley in second place. Brighton Resort was awarded as the number one “Value Trip” with Alta and Snowbird listed as second and third.

Fundraiser for Fishermen Affected by the Gulf Coast Oil Spill

Fundraiser for Fishermen Affected by the Gulf Coast Oil Spill

Great day to be in Big Cottonwood Canyon at Brighton Ski Resort. The was a party with live music and great weather and people .  The five bands that played included StoneFed, Blotto, Scenic Byway, Drunken Masters, and Kristin Diable from Louisiana.  The other four groups are from Utah, Stonefed from Moab, Blotto and Scenic Byway from SLC and Drunken Masters from Clearfield.

The charity that served as our primary benefactor was Gulf Relief Foundation, founded by New Orleanian David Freedman, the general manager of WWOZ radio station in New Orleans.

We were pleased and thankful to have sponsorships from Brighton Resort, Budweiser, AlphaGraphics, Danksquad, KRCL, and the Canyon Inn.

The money raised ($1,000) will all be donated.  I think that the amount of people in attendance throughout the day totaled closed to 200.  Brighton employees as well as others in the local community contributed hours of the time as well as ideas.  Todd Nierny and Beverley Stachowiak did an awesome job coordinating ideas and contributing their free time.

The Gulf relief foundation was formed to help local fisherman in the Gulf Coast region who are being overlooked and under-compensated from the effects of the oil spill.

Spring Skiing in Utah is Alive and Well. And it’s a Blast.

Friday, April 9th, 2010

Blue Bird Powder Alert. 7 feet in 7 days.

This has been an incredible week at Brighton and Solitude Ski Resorts. For those of you thinking about tennis and golf, get your mind out of the gutter. Spring skiing is one of the most exciting activities of the year. Warmer weather combined with prime snow. It does not get better than this!

We have some serious powder to deal with up here in Utah. I have to admit my arms and back are so tired from shoveling paths to our Brighton and Solitude ski rental homes that I just want to trek through the doors and right into the hottubs.

Wondering if the snow is still good in March and April? Yes, an energetic YES! Call us today and experience the greatest snow on earth (in April no less): 888.236.0667.

Who is Jay Aldous?

Sunday, December 20th, 2009

My name is Jay Aldous and I’m married to Adrienne Aldous, owner of Mount Majestic Properties. If I do my job well, you will never meet me. Why’s that you ask? We’ll, I’m the shadow shoveling two-feet of the “World’s Greatest Snow” away from your door in the wee hours of the morning, the abominable snowman character on the tractor clearing your driveway, the fleck of green that just sailed past your window as I get carried off your roof by an avalanche of snow in an effort to clear it. My job is throw, move, push, lift, melt and heave the 500+ inches of snow that Brighton Ski Resort receives each year.

It’s days like today when I get to enjoy and celebrate this frozen moisture we call the “World’s Greatest Snow”. Today I was first in line on the Millicent Quad and enjoyed several speed runs on perfectly groomed corduory (freshly groomed snow looks like corduroy). On my second run, I rode up the chair with Randy Doyle, General Manager of Brighton Ski Resort and got all the latest news including that Brighton has the best ski conditions currently of all the Utah resorts including Park City, Alta and Snowbird.

After enjoying the morning skiing Brighton, I was ready to skate ski at the Solitude Nordic Center. Currently the upper and lower Redman loops are open and it felt good to be on my skate skis for the first time this year. After an hour of skating – I was pooped – but already looking forward to skating again tomorrow.

More snow is expected Tuesday. Fingers crossed and I can get my snow removal chores done before the lifts open and perhaps I WILL see you on the Millicent Chair at 9:00 am.

Adrienne Aldous Skiing at Solitude Ski Resort

This is a picture of my first day of skate skiing this season.

The Solitude Nordic Track was empty but for me and the big blue sky. Just Little Redman and Big Redman loops were open and it is a good thing because they kicked my heini. Next time will be easier. Need more snow and conditions.

Solitude Ski Resort 12-inch Report

Monday, December 14th, 2009

Weather at Solitude Ski Resort:
Snow in the forecast – get your boards waxed!
Misc & Events: We open for winter Nov 13 – conditions permitting.

Are you aware of avalanches?
It’s dumping the “Greatest Snow on Earth” at Solitude!

With the snow piling up and backcountry season in full swing, there’s never been a better time to join Solitude’s Professional Ski Patrol and Snow Safety team for their Avalance Awareness Clinic, December 19-20.

Focusing on how to travel safely and responsibly outside resort boundaries, this two day course is a great introduction to the identification of avalanche hazards and the skills needed to safely travel in the backcountry.

Learn how to identify avalanche terrain, analyze snow and weather factors and manage group dynamics. Plus, gain valuable knowledge concerning avalanche rescue skills. After an avalanche presentation on the morning of day one, the rest of day one and two will be spent in the backcountry putting these concepts into action.

Don’t miss this great opportunity! Spots are limited so sign up quick!
